I’m headed to Philly next week for a meeting- fly in AM, out in PM. I may have time for a single quick lunch. Where do I eat to make it count?
My favorite crumudgeons for your time.

Anywhere inside the Reading Terminal. I recommend Dinic’s.

That strikes to the heart of the issue.

It is amazing. Really the only reason to visit Philly.

No. Both are subpar and overrated.

Most places in Reading Terminal Market are very good

Irish - Plough & the Stars in center city
Reading Terminal Market is good as others have said. Lots of choices in there.
What kind of food are you going for? Chinese, Italian, cheesesteak?

Ignore Pat’s and Geno’s. Tony Luke’s or Jim’s on south will have a better cheesesteak if that’s what you were after. I can’t remember the place in Reading Terminal Market with the good cheesesteak, but you’ll find more good food there than you can eat.

This...DO NOT go to Pat’s or Gino’s...it’s over hyped garbage. Go to Dinic’s at Reading Terminal and get the Italian Roast Pork...which is different than the regular roast pork sandwich. Both are good, but the Italian is chunks of slow cooked pork with all kinds of wonderful seasonings.
Now if you fancy yourself a beer snob, get to Monks. Great food, and an insane collections of beers.

Yup...it’s terrible tourist trap garbage. John’s Roast Pork in addition to having a fantastic roast pork (though different than Dinic’s) sandwich does a killer cheesesteak far superior to Pats/Ginos.

In addition seconding the Dinic’s nom...if you like Chinese get to Dim Sum Garden. Everything is good...but this is what you need to know order the #1 Soup Dumplings...and whatever else you fancy, but you must get the soup dumplings.

Second, third, fiftieth, whatever number I am for the Reading Terminal. Go there and buy a little piece of everything.
That way you won’t regret not getting something.

I wish I had more stars to give. As a teenager I’d pile my friends into a minivan and drive over an hour to get Pat’s cheesesteaks. Now, my sister lives a short walk from Pat’s and when I visit...we drive to John’s Roast Pork. The roast pork sandwich is fantastic, and the cheesesteaks are amazing (get the sharp provolone).

Good recommendation. One of the people I’m traveling with loves dim sum. That’ll make it easier if I need to convince the group.

I’m looking for whatever’s recommended. I’m adventurous when it comes to food. I’ll try anything once. It’s a rule of thumb that doesn't bite often.
